Hemmia on your phone
You don't need a computer at home to use Hemmia. On its own, the app works with your own API key from Anthropic or OpenAI. There is no account to create, and your chats, photos and key stay on your phone.
Install the app
Hemmia for iPhone is in beta and tested on TestFlight; it needs iOS 15 or later. To join, write to [email protected] and you get an invitation by email. The Android app comes later. Want to look around first? The demo shows Hemmia with a made-up family.
Choose "Just me, on this phone"
On the first screen, tap Just me, on this phone.
Pick a provider
Choose Anthropic (Claude models) or OpenAI (GPT models). You pay the provider directly for what you use; Hemmia adds nothing. You can add the other provider later in Settings.
Paste your key
Tap Get a key from Anthropic (or OpenAI) to open the provider's website, create a key there and copy it. Back in Hemmia, tap Paste, then Check and save. Hemmia asks the provider whether the key works before it saves it. Getting an API key explains each step.
Start a chat
Tap + New chat, choose a model and write your message. Stop ends a reply early; the part written so far is kept. Turn on Think harder for difficult questions: the answer takes longer.
Photos
Tap Add photo to send up to 4 photos with a message, from the camera or your library. Hemmia makes them smaller before sending (long edge at most 1568 pixels) and removes their location and camera data.
Your chats
The chat list shows your newest chats first. Use Search chats to find one by its title. Tap the menu next to a chat to Rename or Delete it. A chat's title is the start of its first message until you rename it.
Settings
Tap Settings on the chat list.
- AI providers: add a key for the second provider, Replace a key or Remove it.
- About me: a few lines the AI should know about you (your name, your language, what you do). They are sent with every chat.
- Language: English or German.
- Privacy policy and Terms of use open the privacy policy and the terms.
Export, import and delete
Under Your chats in Settings:
- Export chats saves all chats and photos in one file and opens the share sheet, so you can save it to Files, a computer or a cloud drive.
- Import chats reads such a file back. Imported chats are added next to your existing chats; nothing is overwritten.
- Delete everything on this phone deletes your chats, photos and keys. Export your chats first if you want to keep them.
Your key is not in the export file. On a new phone, paste it again (or create a new key).
Moving to Hemmia at home
If you set up Hemmia at home later, your chats can come along. Pair the phone with your hub first, then open Settings → Move to Hemmia at home and pick the hub. Your chats go to your account on the hub. Your key stays on the phone; the hub uses its own keys. The chats also stay on the phone until you delete them yourself.
